Grace Evangelistic Ministries (GEM) is locally registered in Kenya under section 10 of the Societies Act. The Ministry was initially established in Kenya, in the year of the Lord 2005, purely as a non-denominational evangelistic ministry with a view to spreading the true gospel of salvation to the whole world. The ministry however was immediately faced with the challenge of making disciples of those who came to Christ through the work that the Lord was accomplishing in the ministry. This resulted into the planting of two sister churches of which Grace Covenant Church is one.
Grace Covenant Church (GCC) was therefore planted on 1st of October 2006. Our current membership stands at 100 adults, 30 youth and 60 children below 15 years. With effect from 15th January 2012 we are located at Umoja Innercore Estate, along Moi Drive, opposite the Umoja II Chief’s camp gate, Nairobi, Kenya. We leased this new location after the expiry of our lease agreement at the former location where we had erected a temporary sanctuary for the last five years.
The local community consists of middle income people on one hand who are caught up in busy lifestyles trying to balance between career, small businesses and social life. On the other hand we have slums that have mushroomed within the estate and the immediate neighbourhoods. The slums house people who offer support in the estate as house helps or casual jobs at the nearby Industrial Area. As a result they have little time or regard for Christian living. Most members of this community “burn to ashes their meager earnings” in the numerous bars, night clubs, illegal cheap liquor centers, off license shops and barbeque centers that don the entire neighborhoods. Drug abuse, petty crimes and prostitution are also very rampant in this community.
Our Ministry realizes this challenge and seeks to change these stereotypes by laying emphasis on witnessing through door-to-door evangelism. We are sending out evangelistic teams to the homes around our church to establish a one-on-one contact, a consistent follow up program, making direct contact with people thereby establishing the key element of trust and a lasting relationship that leads to discipleship. We periodically hold open air meetings to compliment our door-to-door endeavours. We have also developed Bible based counseling programmes targeting those involved in drug abuse and prostitution.
